Be fluent in writing press releases

Sometimes we need reminding of the obvious… or maybe not so obvious. Really like this article from Janet Murray for The Guardian Small Business Network on ‘How to write an effective Press Release.’

There are some super gems in the top tips including how to make sure your story is newsworthy, writing killer headlines and getting a journalist to actually open your email!

What made me both chuckle and jump up and down (metaphorically) in agreement was the ultimate question for anyone considering a press release:

Will anyone actually care?

It doesn’t matter how fabulous your PR reads or how clever your ideas or how brilliant your business, if you want any promotional marketing to make a difference then it has to connect with people outside of your organisation. Once you’ve got the reason for why they would be interested, then you’re really got a story!
